A couple of days ago, I wrote about being worried about the girls not meeting milestones like I was expecting them to. Then, that same night, Lydia started to lunge herself at me and Rick, attempting to stand up. She’s still doing that, non-stop now, and she did something else today that freaked me out a tad.
While my work bff Marlea (the same Marlea that drove me to the hospital during a blizzard two days before the girls were unexpectedly born) and I were chatting in the living room and giving the girls little puffs, Lydia eyed one that was a little ways away from her. We didn’t move it closer to her just to see what she’d do, and just watched. She planted her little hands in front of herself, lunged forwards a little slower, got on her tummy, pushed herself up on her hands, brought her knees up under her, and sprawled forward.
She basically did the worm dance. For a damned puff.
But hey, as John the PT guys says, motivation is motivation.
And now I’m constantly expecting Lydia to magically start crawling. I’m sure that’ll happen soon – probably this weekend, where Rick and I will conveniently be out of town and the girls will be staying with his parents. Because why do something mommy wants you to do while she’s around, right? Meanwhile, River is the one we’re nicknaming Lazy Baby – she will sit there and she will clap, but her Camila-like temper has been getting the best of her when we try and get her to do the same things Lydia is doing. What a plot-twist!
With that now happening, my mind is going nuts. Must prepare for crawling babies! Must be sure to babyproof everything! But how do you babyproof everything when we have such a tiny space for so many things? We already don’t use the changing table anymore because diaper changing has become an Olympic sport in our house. Their bouncer and walker are conveniently placed in front of our exercise bike. The only thing I’m really worried about are the crazy stairs we have in our house, and they’re right next to the living room. I know we’ll have to invest in a good, solid baby gate, that will be attached to the wall at the top of the stairs. We do have a playpen, but we don’t have the huge amount of space needed to set it up.
We. Must. Move.
Rick and I have to set time aside to go over the details of selling this house and moving to a bigger one, and that’ll be tricky because we don’t have that much time together. We’ll need to sort things out, put items in storage or throw them away…. So much time needed to do this, and it’s the kind of time we don’t have. Maybe we’ll have to dump the girls on his parents for a weekend so we can get our shit together. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind, since they love those two.
Speaking of getting our shit together, it’s time to do the dishes while the babies nap. Oh, the non-stop life of a mom.
Wouldn’t trade it for the world.
