Happy Halloween!

Halloween was absolutely adorable.

I dressed up as an old witch (I did my makeup so well too, it just never showed in the two pictures I was in), Rick was a doctor, River was Elmo, and Lydia was Cookie Monster.

It was so heart-warming to see River and Lydia waddling/running up driveways, climbing up steps, knocking on doors, and grabbing a piece of candy with each hand out of baskets. It made my day – the excitement, the new environment and new activity. They truly did great.

Lydia was visibly more excited, waving her little hands (which were holding a Twix and a Snickers) and saying “yay”. River was also happy, but she takes after her mother and is slightly grumpy at any given time. She enjoyed running away and not holding my hand like I had asked her to do 100 times, and at exactly 7:40pm, she stopped celebrating the candy in her hands and turned to me, saying “Ok, we go night-night”. I asked her if she wanted to go night-night, and she responded with an enthusiastic “Ya”.

So back to the house we went, with two happy and tired babies. They got to taste their first piece of Halloween candy before bedtime, and went to bed without incident at exactly 8pm.

They’re such freaking angels. We don’t deserve them.

I’ve been doing a good amount of reading lately – I’m currently tackling all of Shirley Jackson’s works – starting with The Haunting of Hill House (spoiler alert: it is NOTHING like the Netflix show, which is also amazing. Two amazing stories that have a lot in common except the plot), then We Have Always Lived in The Castle, The Lottery, The Witch, and The Daemon Lover so far. I’ll probably read more of her short stories in the next few days, she’s such a superb writer.

Makes me wish I had a little bit more creativity and time to write. I love writing. I’ve been told I’m good at it. I wish I could do it for a living, honestly.

Maybe one of these days I’ll start jotting down some ideas and then expanding on them… If I have time. I can always do that at work, in between calls and emails (I mean, how do you think I’m writing this right now?)…

I haven’t been able to sleep much lately. I’ve been waking up at night every night at 3am, and I can’t seem to go back to sleep until about 4:30am. It’s not fun. My body hurts, I’m exhausted, stressed, and just having a weird week this week.

TGIF, am I right?
